Volunteers urgently needed for Welsh hospices
01/11/2007
Do you have a few hours spare to make a difference? George Thomas Hospice Care is the major provider within Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan of home based hospice care. Each year they care and support for over 1,000 patients and their families suffering cancer and other life threatening illnesses. They are a registered charity and are required to raise a large bulk of their running costs through voluntary fundraising.
The main task for drivers are:
- Transport patients and their carers to and from Drop Ins at the Hospice Centre
- Transport patients and their carers to and from appointments at hospitals, clinics etc
- Collect or deliver small items of equipment
Each volunteer driver will also need to operate within all relevant policies and guidelines, including health and safety, equal opportunities, confidentiality and financial regulations.
All applicants will need to be a safe driver with a safe vehicle, hold a current driving licence, insurance and test certificate, be reliable and have a friendly and polite manner
And ideally they'd like drivers to have a reasonable geographical knowledge of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, knowledge of and/or qualification in first aid.
Due to the nature of the work a CRB (Criminal records Bureau check) is also necessary.
