The dangers of HRT

Regrettably I was late in catching up on the whole debate surrounding HRT - as outlined in several articles on your website and in the Mature Times newspaper (July 2007). After a hysterectomy I was advised to take HRT - and with no further medical advice offered on the matter I stayed on it for 12 years.

I felt pretty reasonable - until I started to get some pain in my calves. My GP told me that HRT had "nothing to do with it" and advised me to carry on taking it - but I thought differently, and took myself off it overnight. I then started to experience hot flushes and other symptoms, but learnt to deal with them in my own way.

I was also told about something called Menopace, a special menopause supplement recommended by BUPA, which is a natural way of dealing with changes, is soya based and reasonably priced. Within the first week of taking it I felt normal, with no anxieties or further problems.

But not a day goes by when I don't wish I had found it sooner as I started to develop another horrible complaint in my immune system - for which I had to attend four years at St Thomas' hospital with little chance of a cure. But with arthritis and glaucoma I could well have done without more trouble!

I now firmly believe in treating the menopause naturally.
