Use your teaching skills to travel the world

If you have you ever dreamt about using your teaching skills to travel the world - this is your chance to find out more. International teaching recruitment specialists, Teachers International Consultancy (TIC) are hosting four regional seminars around the UK in the next few months to highlight the work opportunities available to qualified British teachers overseas - and they especially welcome older teachers.

Currently there are over 4,000 international schools in 150 countries that speak English as the primary language - so you can teach your subject area to your favourite age group as far afield as Brussels, Buenos Aires, Beijing or Brunei. The opportunities are vast - and the seminars are designed to help you find out how to make the most of these opportunities.

They will include advice about finding the best accredited International schools, making an international move work for you and your family, and the variety of teaching opportunities that are available including short and long-term contracts, pre-retirement placement and sabbaticals. The seminars will include presentations from British teachers who have taught in international schools as well as a question and answers session from the experts - all of who are ex-British and international teachers and head teachers. Open to qualified and training teachers, all attendees will receive a free on-line portfolio.

TIC’s regional seminars will take place at:
Bristol, Saturday October 6th
Birmingham, Saturday November 3rd
Manchester, Saturday November 10th
London, Saturday January 19th

Teachers International Consultancy has placed teachers in accredited international schools all over the world. Managing director of TIC, Andrew Wigford said:  “There are now over 4,000 international schools in almost every single country in the world, from the Bahamas to Madagascar and from Mongolia to Japan. 200 alone were opened last year and they are crying out for energetic, motivated, experienced teachers.

“The first place they turn to is Britain because English is the language of choice and the skills of British teachers are highly valued throughout the world. Once you’ve taught for a couple of years in the UK, you can literally work anywhere in the world that you choose."

For one such teacher, Toni Nash, who is presently working at the Overseas School of Colombo in Sri Lanka, it’s been the opportunity of a lifetime. His advice: “Don’t wake up one day at the end of your career and think ‘I wish I had.’ Do it! It could be the experience of your lifetime.”

For Dominic Crompton who taught abroad for three years then returned to Britain and became a deputy head teacher, the opportunity provided tremendous professional development: “You go out there with one mindset, you return with another that’s broader and more open to the rest of the world. Professionally you are so much more employable, especially if you’re returning with experience of developing curriculum and with leadership and international links. Without doubt, it’s an experience I would recommend to anyone. It is impossible not to bring something back that is of great value, professionally and personally.”
