Training could save your dog’s life
13/08/2007
Training your dog to understand basic commands could save both yours and your dog's life, warns leading veterinary charity, PDSA.
PDSA Senior Veterinary Surgeon, Elaine Pendlebury says: “The basic commands of sit, heel, drop, come and leave are the most important. If your dog accidentally slips its lead and darts off towards a busy road, the 'come' command could help prevent a serious accident.
“Equally, signalling to a dog to leave or drop dangerous items such as a stick or glass bottle, could help prevent serious injuries.”
PDSA has produced a free Dog Training leaflet, available from PDSA PetAid hospitals and charity shops nationwide. Further information can be obtained from the website linked below or by calling freephone 0800 917 2509.
