Help needed to run a local radio station

Is there anyone out there living in the North London area who would
like to join a local Hospital Radio in almost any capacity – as a presenter or behind the scenes.

The hospital radio station for the Whittington Hospital in London N19 urgently needs to increase their base of volunteers. You’ll need to commit to at least three hours a week and previous experience is not necessary: volunteers can be trained on the broadcasting equipment and shown how to put a programme together, and even helped to put on their own show.

Says one of the co-ordinators, Roy Gummer: “Older people come to this with an advantage in that it helps if the majority of our listeners - the patients - can relate to someone close to their age.”

What’s more, members can get involved behind the scenes if they don’t want to go behind the "mike", doing things like organising volunteers to go on the wards, while those with a technical bent are in demand as engineers to help keep the equipment going, and upgrading and maintaining the computer systems.

Help is needed too on Press & PR, Production, music library and arranging social evenings, and someone is required to take on the role of Membership Secretary, as well as someone to act as Charity Secretary as their current Secretary has decided to stand down this year.

“As you see,” says Roy, “we are looking for a large number of people with a wide variety of skills. If anyone is interested they can write to me at 16, Calver, Ingestre Road, London NW5 1XA or email me at roypgummer@yahoo.co.uk.”
