Got a pension? Why do you want a job?

I was made redundant in 2006 having never claimed any benefits and having always worked (44 years) for a living.

So I went along to my local job centre, where I had three interviews. I was
finally told not to bother signing on as I had a company pension.

I informed the person behind the desk that I would like a job so I could keep my mind alert. Her reply was for me to look at the notice board and return to her. There were no jobs in the local area (no car) upon returning to her desk she became agitated and I was informed, quote: “You have a pension - why work?”

This surprised me and I do not bother to go to the job centre anymore, but help out locally charity shops when I can.
