Sunshine 70s; the Perfect Soundtrack to the Summer

Review by Paul Twynam

Summer! The sound of lawn mowers, the smell of barbecues, queues on the M5... and music.

Every day's a holiday and let's hope it’s a Lovely Day (Bill Withers) and
Sunshine Day (Osibisa) and maybe you'll feel a Summer Breeze (Isley Brothers).

A simple idea (from Classic Gold Radio), but although there have been a string of summer/weather related singles over the years, this double CD collection includes tracks that are there because they charted in the summer and will remind many of us of a particular one. For me, it’s You to me are everything by The Real Thing - the year I graduated ... 1976 was that long hot summer, if you recall.

Some of you may prefer to remember bopping to Jeans On by David Dundas or the Bellamy Brothers' Let your love flow.

Anyway, Here comes the sun (Steve Harley) so let’s have a Garden Party (Ricky Nelson).

Put another prawn on the barbie, mate. Wonder what happened to my platform sandals? Oh, it’s raining. Still, mustn't grumble, plenty of Reasons to be cheerful as Ian Dury said.
