Meet the old rage pensioners!

Inspired by Dylan Thomas’s passionate plea to his dying father ‘Do not go gentle into that good night’ David Pattison’s new play "The Dying of the Light" has horror at its core - but is also funny and very moving. With six of the cast having a combined age of 418 this is probably the oldest group at the Edinburgh Fringe. They bring to the play a wealth of life experience as they confront the topical issues of age-related social exclusion.

Frustrated by the platitudes and lies of officialdom, a group of pensioners decide to take matters into their own hands. They have in mind a peaceful protest march, but a frail 75 year old has a different plan. In fact, one involving large amounts of petrol.

The horrific consequences of her action have no effect on official policy but devastate her friends as they are forced to reconsider long held values and relationships. "The Dying of the Light" is the third play written by award winning novelist and poet David Pattison. His psychological drama "Tribunal" won international acclaim at the Savannah (GA) Festival in 2006, and the absurd "Boots" will have its world premier at Manchester in July 2007.

The play is being performed by Wotlarx Enterprises - a disparate group of people with a shared love of the theatre. The semi professional cast brings together some (very) mature students, a life model, a former theatre manager, a club singer, a retired social worker and a charity fund-raiser under the experienced eye of director Andrew Pearson.

"The Dying of the Light" is at Sweet Grassmarket (Venue 18), Apex City Hotel, 61 Grassmarket, Edinburgh, from August 19th-26th at 3.30pm Tickets cost £7.50/£6.50.
