Let the muse take you... to Wales

The Welsh Poetry Competition has been launched in Pontypridd to encourage and foster the wealth of creative writing talent languishing in dark corners throughout Wales.

The organizers specifically want to inspire people to capture everyday life and give a voice to a whole new generation of poets and writers. “We are not interested in purely academic types of literature but would much rather see raw passion burst onto the creative writing scene in Wales.” said Dave Lewis, competition organizer.

“This is our first year and we are offering the following cash prizes, 1st Prize - £100, 2nd Prize - £50 and 3rd Prize - £25. And we are absolutely delighted to have famous Welsh writer John Evans (pictured) as a judge for this year’s competition.”

To enter you just need to compose a poem, in English, of less than 50 lines and send it to the competition organizers. Entry forms are available from libraries and directly from the website at the weblink below.

It costs £3 to enter and the closing date is 24th June 2007.
