Writing competition celebrates grandparents' and grandchildren's special relationship
12/03/2007
The national charity Counsel and Care is celebrating the special relationship between grandparents and grandchildren with a creative writing competition.
Entitled "My Grandparents and Me", the aim of the competition is to choose the best examples of creative writing from grandchildren and grandparents that celebrate the relationships between the generations.
Stephen Burke, Chief Executive of Counsel and Care, said: “This competition seeks examples of writing and illustrative photos, not just from those whose grandparents are still alive, but from older people who have fond memories of their own grandparents. These memories can give us an insight into history, when older people were treated with greater respect and often were the ones who held the family together.
"Improving intergenerational relationships is now becoming crucial. 'My Grandparents and Me' aims to contribute to better relationships between different age groups and to highlight the enormous amount of unpaid care that grandparents provide in Britain today.”
