How fair is this?

I would like to add our case under the title "How Fair is This?" that appeared in your letters column in the January 2007 issue.

My wife and I are both 70, and because of a small private pension we do not qualify for any benefits and therefore not Council Tax Benefit.

Our total monthly income is £903 and we pay the full rate of £1115 pa or £93 per month. Our neighbour lives in an identical property, and both him and him wife work for the local council in middle management positions, and their daughter also works. I know that the couples' combined salary is £3,900 per month. We pay the same rates.

Is this fair?
