A breath of fresh country air just on your doorstep

Imagine a place right on your doorstep where there are no crowds, quiet roads and some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe, where the quaint villages and bustling towns offer a warm welcome to all.

You’ll find it all in Mid Wales and the Brecon Beacons.

This is the place to really get away from it all - from the bustle, noise and traffic and into a haven of green  tranquillity. The area is a hidden treasure of perfect countryside unspoilt by development.  The lush valleys of Britain’s most glorious rivers, the Severn, the Wye and the Usk, cut through its rolling hills, carving out muscular hills.

Visit border towns with Georgian architecture and black and white half timbered houses, wander around the wonderful shops in the book town of Hay, famous for its world renowned Literary Festival each May and meander down Brecon’s alleys.  There are Victorian Spa towns too, with even the smallest of  places holding festivals and events and home to unique shops selling antiques and crafts.

You’ll get good food and a cheerful welcome whether you choose to stay in a manor house, hotel, guest house, inn or get closer to nature and camp.

Splashing Around

The countryside boasts a network of canals that crisscross some of Britain’s most attractive rivers – the Wye, the Severn and the Usk and the lesser-known Tywi.  Ideal for those who want to pack a picnic and meander by canoe, rowing boat or canal barge, cutting themselves adrift from the stresses of everyday life.

There is a fisherman’s saying that all good things come to he who wades.  And for the fishing enthusiast the area offers the pleasure of timeless days casting for trout and salmon.

So take to the water and enjoy messing about on the water in Mid Wales and the Brecon Beacons.
