Audio books - available from my library
27/11/2006
I was interested in your article on audio books from the RNIB. My library at Bromley provides me with ten of these a month at no charge, and I believe this service is available elsewhere. All I had to do was supply a letter from my consultant saying I was partially sighted and found reading difficult.
The talking books, and also the large print and ordinary books, are delivered and collected free, not only to housebound residents but to anybody who has difficulty in using the library service in the normal way, whether or not they have a problem with vision.
I am mobile, but 74 and arthritic thus have a problem carrying talking or large print books; I am delighted to be accepted into the 'housebound' rota. It is well worth enquiring at your local library. This is a really wonderful service - an absolute life-saver, and I am very grateful. I can still use my ticket in the usual way if I need to borrow additional books.
