Come and join us in Swansea

Dear Editor,
I’d like to invite your readers to join us in Swansea on Sunday, May 27 to raise vital funds for people affected by diabetes and their families. That’s the day we take to two wheels for the annual Diabetes UK Cymru Swansea Bike Ride.
It promises to be a great family day out for young and old alike. The ride starts at 10am from County Hall, Swansea and takes in great views of the Bay as it meanders along the sea front to Mumbles and back.
WRVS and The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall launch Diamond Champions

To celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, WRVS is calling for nominations from around the country for “Diamond Champions”, older people who volunteer in their local communities and go the extra mile to make a real difference to others’ lives.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have agreed to be joint Patrons of the hunt for the Diamond Champions in recognition of the important and valuable role played by older people in communities throughout the UK.
Graham Norton invites the nation to Party for Parkinson’s for The Queen’s Jubilee

Popular BBC TV Presenter and arguably the nation’s favourite party host, Graham Norton, has issued a rallying cry – urging everyone to Party for Parkinson’s this summer.
Familiar with glitzy nightlife and besquinned party gear, Graham is channelling his love of social occasions into backing a new campaign aimed at helping people with Parkinson’s by sprinkling a little party magic across the UK.
Whether it’s a barbecue, street or house party, Parkinson’s UK alongside Graham, hopes to encourage people to turn their gatherings into a real cause for celebration by helping to raise funds for the charity.
Age Concern Powys joins the Age Cymru family

Age Cymru Powys is the latest local Age Concern in Wales to join the Age Cymru family of charities and change its name to Age Cymru Powys.

Admiral team transform local older person’s garden

A team of greenfingered volunteers from Admiral made all the difference to a Cardiff resident by transforming an overgrown garden into a space she could enjoy.
The six workers from Admiral’s Communications team decided to swap an afternoon out for something worthwhile and contacted Age Concern Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to see if they had any clients who could do with some help with their garden.
Volunteering leads to learning award for 76 year old youth worker Colin

Colin McDonald, aged 76 from Hartlepool, qualified as a Youth Worker whilst volunteering at a local youth group and has already put his newfound skills to good use by raising funding for the group and inspiring others to learn. His dedication and commitment to improving his life through learning is being recognised with a Regional Senior Learner Award as part of Adult Learners’ Week 12 - 18 May 2012.
Nominator, Karen Jensen Youth Force (ULR) trainer, said, “He is enthusiastic and has more energy than the paid staff sometimes ... [he] always makes time to listen to young people, and his work spans generations seamlessly.”
Elderly residents fundraise for vulnerable youngsters

Elderly residents living in the heart Croydon’s town centre have raised money for vulnerable young people facing housing crisis to turn their lives around.
Whitgift Almshouses residents located in North End chose local homeless charity CAYSH to help give vulnerable young people a chance to get back into education or employment.
Two youngsters who have now changed their lives for the better thanks to the work of the charity were presented with a cheque for £247.95 on behalf of CAYSH by the residents.
Age UK Sutton and Sutton High Junior School Jubilee Event

Age UK Sutton is currently running Free Connecting People Digital Inclusion projects with 2 locals Schools.
To celebrate this work and the relationship built with the local Schools we have been invited to contribute to a Jubilee Tea event that will share Coronation experience of the older generation with the younger generation to contribute towards their Queens Jubilee project.
