‘Hospital 2 Home’ initiative welcomed

Care and_Repair_logoA new resource pack to encourage and support best practice to enable older patients to return home from hospital safely has today been launched by Department of Health Minister, Norman Lamb.

The Hospital 2 Home pack supported by the Department of Health (DH) and Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) provides essential information for people working in health, housing, social care and the voluntary sector.

It will help them to support older patients who are being discharged to their own homes and reduce the risk of readmission.

Backing for traffic light labels a ‘quantum leap’ for public health

BHF LogoThe UK’s governments have today announced they will be backing a single, front of pack food labelling scheme that includes traffic light colours and guideline daily amounts (GDAs).

The Department of Health launched a consultation earlier this year about how best to give shoppers the nutritional information they need. Following the consultation, the UK’s four Governments have decided to recommend to retailers and manufacturers a single scheme that includes traffic light colours.

Failure to tackle how care is funded is leaving elderly people in limbo and could strip them of their dignity and their assets, social care experts are warning today.

More than 80 council leaders, charity directors, directors of adult services, chief executives and social care experts are warning that government is failing to adequately plan for the care needed by our rapidly ageing population.

Cancer death rates to fall by 50 per cent

cancer research_ukDeath rates from some of the biggest killer cancers in the UK are expected to fall by almost a half by 2030, experts have revealed.

The charity Cancer Research UK say the main reasons for the changes are better diagnosis and treatment, as well as the fact that fewer people are smoking.
