Government guilty of breathtaking complacency

Britain’s biggest pensioners’ organization, the National Pensioners Convention (NPC), has accused the government of breathtaking complacency over the scale of cold related deaths amongst older people last winter.
Dot Gibson, NPC general secretary said:
“The scale of winter deaths amongst Britain’s pensioners is nothing short of a national scandal – but rather than show concern, the government seems to display a breathtaking level of complacency.
They are responsible for cutting the winter fuel allowance and reducing home insulation programmes which will have a devastating effect on the ability of millions of pensioners to keep warm this winter.
But rather than their warm words we want to see action to raise the winter fuel allowance and reinstate the energy efficiency schemes. Anything less is simply more hot air from politicians who are out of touch with how ordinary people live their lives.”
