Pensioners rally over Budget cuts

Pensioners from Britain’s biggest pensioner organisation, the National Pensioners Convention (NPC) will gather tomorrow in Parliament to lobby MPs over the government’s decision to freeze the age related tax allowances. Campaigners will stage a midday rally in the House of Commons, just before MPs debate the Finance Bill and an Opposition amendment to withdraw the tax allowance measure.

Appointment of new Commissioner for Older People

Following an open recruitment process, Sarah Rochira has today been appointed as the new Older People's Commissioner for Wales for a four-year term.
The Commissioner is a champion for older people providing information, advocacy and support for older people in Wales and their representatives. The Commission has specific legal powers to ensure that public bodies act in accordance with the interests of older people in Wales.

Post Office launches £1.34 billion branch network investment and support programme

Scotland's ticking time bomb

Scotland's elderly population is set to rise by more than half a million in the next two decades - causing a demographic time bomb.
Analysts at the National Records of Scotland office claim the number of pensioners living in the country will grow by 551,200 by 2035.
The country's total population is expected to sky rocket to 5.7 million by 2035, putting it on course to reach six million by 2050.
Hidden Heroes, Elderly will "lead country through recession"

Four in five councils are denying free care

Thousands of vulnerable pensioners are being stripped of care services which are vital to help them stay in their own homes because of town hall cuts.
More than four in five councils are now denying free care – such as home helps, meals on wheels and the installation of stair lifts – to all but those with the most serious health needs.
