Young volunteers tackle old age loneliness around the UK

Team v_logoAs the average population age increases, more and more members of our community are entering in to the realms of old age. However, as they do, many are finding themselves suffering from the terrible feeling of loneliness.

Research shows this affliction affects 1 in 10 older people and 1,000,000 million people over 65s say they feel lonely most or all of the time.

For the generation that has lived and still has so much life to offer, this is a shocking and sad situation. This is why Team v is trying to do something about it. Team v is a national youth volunteering project with 47 young leaders across the country aiming to change the world one campaign at a time.

In November and December last year they organised Food Drives, nationally 19,541 non-perishable food items were raised.

Now Team v are turning their attention to this issue of loneliness. Events for old and young will be held around the UK over January and February, so keep your eyes peeled.

However there are many tiny steps that anyone can do to help beat Old Age loneliness. Say hello to your neighbour or invite them round for a cuppa and start something special.
