Happy 20th Birthday Mature Times!
01/12/2011
It’s celebrations all round this month – and not only for Christmas! At Mature Times we’re lighting the candles on the cake to mark our 20th birthday.
For the last two decades we have proudly led the way in campaigning on the key issues that affect the mature sector:
We’ve been at the forefront in the fight to save libraries.
We’ve battled to protect pensions and to curb heating and fuel bills.
Our support for the campaign to reinstate funding for carers was applauded nationally, as were our demands to provide grandparents greater access to grandchildren in family disputes.
The list goes on and – rest assured - we won’t stop!
But, as well as highlighting these major concerns, we’ve found time to laugh at life – and at ourselves.
We’ve outlived several governments, battled through recessions, fought off competition and won over an army of more than half a million wonderful readers.
And today, as we light the candles, thanks to our devoted readers and loyal advertisers we’re stronger than ever.
Said Mature Times Editor, David Thomas: “The last 20 years have seen spectacular changes in the world of newspapers.
“The whole landscape has transformed and with that have come huge challenges.
We’ve had to adapt to new technology, new production and distribution systems and,of course, today the economic pressures are as tough as ever.
“But throughout the years one thing hasn’t changed – and that is our role as a campaigning newspaper – the only campaigning paper in the country – for the mature sector.
“As we all know, the over 50s face daunting challenges in the years ahead and so it’s more important than ever that we have a voice, and that is exactly what this paper provides and will continue to provide.
“And so to everyone who has helped us reach this milestone, a huge thank you!”
And thank you for your kind birthday messages here's what some have you have said about us ...
